Counselling Skills

Alcohol Focus Scotland has been training people to become alcohol counsellors for almost 40 years. To train as a volunteer alcohol counsellor see our Fast Track Alcohol Counsellor Training.

We also offer counselling skills courses including the COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate and as well as selected short courses (one or two days) concentrating on particular counselling approaches or techniques. See our programme of specialist alcohol workshops.

The accreditation panel at Alcohol Focus Scotland will meet in 2012 on the following dates – 8 May and 23 October.  Trainee alcohol counsellors should submit their portfolios no later than 23 April for the 8 May sitting and 9 October for the 23 October sitting.  These should be sent to Training at Alcohol Focus Scotland.

Fast Track Alcohol Counsellor Training

Alcohol Focus Scotland offers the Fast Track training programme for people who have a counselling skills qualification and who are now seeking to become a volunteer alcohol counsellor.  Such counsellors practice in local alcohol or addictions agencies and most trainees have made contact with a local agency, before undertaking the training.

The Fast Track course runs for 6 days (usually over several weekends). Course attendees are required to have achieved learning such as the COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate or equivalent before applying (or seek to join a Fast Track course being run in conjunction with the COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate).

Costs

Fast Track alone: £350
Fast Track with accreditation process: £500

Sessions will run from 9.30am to 5.00pm on Saturdays and 10.00 to 5.00pm on Sundays.
