Customised Training
Our training team offers a wide range of alcohol-related training on a customised basis, tailored to suit the particular needs of your workforce or organisation. We deliver training throughout Scotland and at our offices in central Glasgow.
With nearly 40 years experience, our training aims to create a stimulating environment that values people’s experience.
All of our workshops topics can be delivered on a single-agency basis and customised to focus on particular aspects or to suit particular client groups. We can also design and deliver training courses based on your requirements.
Here are two examples of our customised training:
Case Study 1 - Glasgow Addiction Services, Tier 1 and Tier 2 Alcohol Awareness Training
This bespoke one day alcohol awareness training is currently in its third year with over 350 people having completed it so far. This was developed for tier one and tier two workers who need help in understanding their responsibilities to service users presenting with an alcohol problem.
Ranging from 6 to 22 people and comprising a mix of senior managerial, administration, health and social care workers, the day dovetails well with the SWD strategic development objectives around alcohol. The outcomes include:
- Increased knowledge of the effects of alcohol
- Increased confidence
- Understanding of effective interventions when presented with an alcohol problem.
"This training has been carried out on a multidisciplinary basis and has allowed staff to attend training with colleagues from other services across the city and gain more of an insight into other work, and to allow practice discussions to take place. Colleagues feel more informed and the training will help them in their work and in their own lives. The course is now EQIA approved."
Case Study 2 - Drinkline
Drinkline is the UK’s free phone alcohol helpline and receives up to 1,500 calls a day. Helpline operators undertook a bespoke two day training course with Alcohol Focus Scotland. In conjunction with Essentia, who provide the Drinkline service, the training was developed to include not only the necessary fact-based knowledge on alcohol, but also the ‘softer’ skills of listening and communicating with what is very often a distressed caller.
