Alcohol is a legal drug which is regulated through legislation. In Scotland premises and people must be licensed to sell it.
Alcohol Focus Scotland works with all those in the licensing system to ensure that alcohol is controlled in a manner that reduces potential harm. This includes:
- the legislators (Government)
- the regulators (Licensing Boards)
- the enforcers of legislation (police)
- those that review and monitor the system (Local Licensing Forums and Licensing Standards Officers)
- the licensed trade
We also work with those working in the public interest in licensing including Alcohol and Drug Partnerships (ADPs), Public Health officials and Health Boards.
