This experiential workshop will cover both theory and practice. There will be NO stressful or embarrassing role play!
A comprehensive introduction, suitable for all paid and volunteer helpers, carers and counsellors working with adults with substance misuse issues.

This two day workshop aims is to provide participants with an introduction to mindfulness and relapse prevention and how to integrate mindfulness, relapse prevention strategies with motivational interviewing and the cycle of change model.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic (CBT) techniques when working with problem drinkers.
Thursday 13/5/10
166 Buchanan Street, Glasgow
When helping a problem drinker achieve abstinence or seek to control their drinking, anxiety can often affect the helper and 'common sense' can be replaced with a need to apply a 'brand' named approach. The workshop seeks to remove any anxiety or mystery around what CBT techniques (engaging and co-constructing action plans with clients) are and promote and encourage adoption and innovation in their application.
Suitable for those who may have no working knowledge of CBT and are being asked to help more with clients presenting with alcohol problems. It is an introductory workshop but will take into account the experiences and needs of those attending.
Cost: £95
Breaking the cycle- Alcohol in families
Wednesday 19/5/10
166 Buchanan Street, Glasgow
The focus on the individual service user with alcohol problems often neglects the role of their family in the conception and consequent sustainment of the alcohol problem. The shrugged acceptance of second or third generation problem drinkers to their 'inevitable' situation is what this workshop seeks to challenge. Through exploring possible sources of family traits (genograms) and coping strategies, we will attempt to break a cycle of alcohol problems from further developing.
Suitable for all who offer support to dependent drinkers (and those affected) and those drinkers at risk of developing dependence. In particular carers, counsellors, addiction workers, prison staff, criminal justice staff, social workers (family and child workers) and social care workers.
***This course is only £45 for existing SNAPY Members, call 0141 572 6703 for details***
Cost for non SNAPY members: £95
