Alcohol Focus Scotland is working with local partners to hold regional events across Scotland during January to March 2012. The two hour events will provide an opportunity for licensing and public health stakeholders to hear more about the ideas put forward in the report Rethinking Alcohol Licensing, which was launched at this year's National Licensing Conference, and discuss how these could be implemented in local licensing decision making and planning.

Licensing has a very important part to play in controlling the harms arising from the sale of alcohol in Scotland. Rethinking Alcohol Licensing outlines a new approach in licensing, one which moves away from focusing on the decision making at an individual level to place greater focus on the aggregate effect of licensing across whole areas. Consequently, the Licensing Board policy statement assumes increased importance as a tool for defining and supporting local policy.

Licensing Boards, Forums, ADPs and Health Boards are being invited to participate in the free events, along with other key stakeholders such as LSOs and the police.
