Drinks licences at two Inverclyde hotels were suspended by councillors after reports of breaches in conditions.

The Port and Harbour at Customhouse Place, Greenock, was punished with a six-week ban from serving alcohol.

Inverclyde Licensing Board heard there was evidence of drug-taking on the premises, that customers were drunk, the sale of alcohol was badly managed and that alcohol on which the duty hadn’t been paid was being stored in the bar area.

Wemyss Bay Hotel had its licence suspended for two weeks for failing to display a relevant notice and for having alcohol on which the duty hadn’t been paid stored in the bar area.

Both suspensions were imposed from today.
