During the final week of the annual ACPOS Festive Drink Drug Drive Campaign, 105 offenders were found driving whilst over the legal alcohol limit and a further four offenders were detected for driving whilst under the influence of drugs. In total, over the four week period a total of 426 offenders were caught driving whilst over the legal alcohol limit.

A further 25 offenders were detected driving whilst under the influence of drugs. These figures show an overall reduction compared to last year's campaign which saw 460 drink drivers caught and a further 18 who were found to be unfit through drugs.

Commenting, Chief Superintendent Brian Anderson, ACPOS lead on drink driving, said that this year's campaign saw a reduction in the requests for vehicle forfeiture for repeat offenders, adding "This could be an indication that the tougher consequence for repeat offenders is having an impact and with this in mind, ACPOS in conjunction with other criminal justice partners will be considering extending the Vehicle Forfeiture Scheme to include other offences."
