Scottish Alcohol and Tobacco Policy Summit

Alcohol Focus Scotland, ASH Scotland and Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems are pleased to announce a joint conference which will consider what progress has been made in alcohol control and tobacco control and explore what each sector might learn from the other. Chief Executive of AFS Evelyn Gillan and Chief Executive of ASH Scotland Sheila Duffy look forward to hearing your views and ideas to improve Scotland's health. A report with policy recommendations will be circulated to delegates and to the Scottish Government.

Chaired by health journalist and broadcaster Pennie Taylor.

This Summit is an opportunity for all those involved in countering the damaging effects of alcohol and tobacco on Scotland's health, social relations and economy to come together to hear the latest analysis and ideas from professionals involved in the field of public health. Importantly this Summit is looking to delegates to contribute towards new solutions through Question & Answer sessions, facilitated table discussions, and panel discussions.

Experts contributing to this important Summit include:

  • Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, former President of the Royal College of Physicians (London)
  • Dr Laurence Gruer OBE, Director of Public Health Science with NHS Health Scotland
  • Dr Jeff Collin, Director, Global Public Health Unit, University of Edinburgh
  • Professor Gerard Hastings, Director of the Institute for Social Marketing, University of Stirling

In addition delegates will hear directly from policy makers with an address from Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon and a participative Question Time style debate with the Health Spokespeople of the five parties represented at Holyrood:
