General alcohol awareness training workshop

Glasgow Addiction Services (GAS) has just commissioned a further series of one day general alcohol awareness training workshops aimed at health, social care and voluntary organisation staff working in non-specialist addiction services. The workshops regularly attract around 20 participants and are now in their fourth year. GAS has been a keen supporter of this training which is embedded in their tier 1 and tier 2 alcohol and drugs training programmes. This year they have expanded the areas from which participants can attend to include East Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire.

This year saw the introduction of a service user presentation to the workshop. This has been evaluated very positively, as offering a personal experience of the recovery journey and an insight to the effectiveness of services and personal interventions when working with problem alcohol users. The inclusion of this presentation followed an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) of the workshop in 2011. The course has also received Continuing Personal Development status under the Health Board’s Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) meaning that health professionals can gain credits towards their KSF by completing the workshop.

This training workshop can be delivered throughout Scotland and customised to accommodate any range of practitioners.
