Local Licensing Forums update
04/08/2011
Alcohol_focus
In its work to support Local Licensing Forums, Alcohol Focus Scotland organised a July meeting to bring together representatives from various Forums who had recently been in touch looking for advice. The representatives held varying functions including conveners, council support staff and LSOs. Each Forum works independently and there are few opportunities to meet with other Forums. By bringing everyone together, we were able to provide the opportunity for people to meet others in a similar situation, to share good ideas and provide support for each other.

The discussion began with an outline giving the background to Local Licensing Forums; their role as defined in licensing legislation and how to apply this practically. The group then spent some time sharing experiences. Key issues and areas of good practice were identified. Each person was asked to select one action that they would take forward from the session. Those attending said they felt the discussion had been very beneficial and agreed to meet again at the end of the year to discuss progress. The group members will be able to contact each other to offer support and share experiences on an ongoing basis, and of course, support and advice will continue to be provided by Alcohol Focus Scotland.

Any Local Licensing Forums who feel it may be helpful to participate in a similar session should contact Linda Bowie at linda.bowie@alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk or 0141 572 6593.
