Whether you’re into walking, running, baking, or fancy setting yourself a challenge – there are so many great ways you could have some fun and fundraise for AFS!

The money you raise will support our campaigning efforts for a future free from the widespread health and social harm caused by alcohol.

Take a look at some ideas below to help get you started. Thank you for thinking about fundraising with us, we’re so excited to have you on board!

  • Try a sponsored walk, hike or run.
  • Into heights? Why not try a sponsored abseil or even a bungee jump!
  • A bake sale, coffee morning or dress up day are fun ways to fundraise as a group.
  • Give something up for a month - this can be anything from sugar to alcohol, whatever works for you! You can ask people to sponsor your challenge.

Gifts in Wills

Leaving a gift in your will is important to us all - when we are no longer here, we want to know that those we care about are supported. If you are considering a gift in your will to Alcohol Focus Scotland (AFS), thank you.

This guide will help you to find out a little more about how you can make that pledge to support our work, and the future generations of individuals who will benefit from that work.

Ways you can leave a gift to AFS:

  • A share of your estate (Residuary)
  • After settling any debts, the expenses of administration of your estate and any legacies included in your will for your loved ones; the remainder of your estate is known as ‘the residue’. You could choose to leave the residue, or a share of the residue, to a charity.
  • A cash gift (Pecuniary)
  • Rather than leaving a share of your estate, you could make over a fixed cash sum to a charity.
  • Specific
  • Naming a particular item, for example a property or personal possession.

How we use gifts in Wills

Gifts in wills can be big or small, but the impact they have is huge and long lasting. While your gift means a huge amount to AFS, it means even more to those who need our support now and in the future.

You gift will ensure we continue to:

  • Research and develop policies informed by academic research and the real-life experiences of people affected by alcohol and campaign for change.
  • Provide accurate and accessible information about alcohol to the media, policymakers, practitioners and the general public.
  • Offer training to workplaces, teachers and early years practitioners, support workers and people working in the regulation of licensing.
  • Make a unique contribution to preventing alcohol harm in Scotland by promoting cost-effective action that works for people and reduces inequalities.
  • Campaign for change and promote the sharing of good practice at local, UK, and international level.

If you are considering leaving a gift in you Will to AFS, then why not contact us to discuss it further on 0141 572 6700 or by email enquiries@alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk.

There are many considerations when creating a will or amending an existing one, and therefore we always recommend you speak to a solicitor or Will-writing professional for formal legal advice.
